A BRIEF HISTORY
History is an important part of who we are. After all if you don't know where you come from you can't possibly know where you are going. The Protocols and history of our community are a basis for what our community is and what it is yet to become. The history of the Baltimore Eagle is also a basis for who and what we are, and, what we are yet to become. So, let us tell you about this very special place we call home.
In April of 1991, The Baltimore Eagle first opened its doors. At the helm ws Mr. Tom Kiple, who knew that Baltimore needed a place where it was "safe" to be whomever, and whatever, you were. A home for its BDSM, Leather, Levi, Bear, and Fetish communities.
Many experienced members of these communities found the Baltimore Eagle to be exactly that place. The presence of those members brought forth more and more young people who were interested in these "mysterious" activities they knew made them tingle in places they barely knew yet they had. The wisdom of these experienced members of these communities began to teaCh them not only what they were but pride in who they were.
In 1994 Mr Kiple went to Tampa FLA. Where he opened the Suncoast Resort which became home to the International Drummer contests soon to become the International LeatherSir, Leatherboy contest system.
The Baltimore Eagle? The Eagle began a new chapter in its journey and we were introduced to a remarkable man named Richard B. Richardson.
The Leather community, was in the past, often referred to as a group of outlaws. Those who lived life as they saw fit. Doing the things that made them happy. Doing the things that got them off. RIchard B. Richardson was a prime example.
Richard moved here from Atlanta Georgia, to realize a dream.
In Atlanta, Richard could often be found with his trusty tambourine in hand dancing around with the chains glistening on his chaps. While some might say leather men don't go danncing, I'd have to say Leathermen, do whatever the hell they want. Rich was no exception.
He quickly became consumed with not only his realization of a business that served our community, but, with how this business could give to that community. He taught us about those that had been lost over the years. He told of benefits, and shows, and events that had been planned and executed to benefit our community. He told us how sometimes you have to care for your own, because nobody else will. He donated kegs of beer, and raffle tickets that organizations and groups could sell towrd the benefit of our community and then opened his doors to give them a place to do it.
Rich was gruff, rough, grouchy, and sometimes volatile. Being passionate about things you feel are important sometimes will do that.
Under the guidance of Richard Richardson The Baltimore Eagle tripled it's original size, became a nationally and internationally known home for our community. We were the first to have a Ms. Baltimore Eagle, many of whom have continued to represent our community as International Ms. Leather. We became the home for the Mid-Atlantic Drummer regional contests, and again many of our representatives went on to become International Mr.Drummers and Drummnerboys.
Richard became somewhat of a recluse coming out occasionally to the current leather event or appearing out of the smoke and lights all of a sudden at New York's Black party. Rich remained always exactly who he was and made no apologies for it.
Richard, to us, became Sir, Daddy, Boss, but most importantly friend.
On September 24, 2007, we lost this most amazing man. Simply, it sucks that he's gone. The Baltimore Eagle, well the Eagle is still here! WE AIN'T GOING NOWHERE! This Eagle, will continue its journey. We will spread our wings and WE WILL CONTINUE TO SOAR! Nobody can tell you where they will be tomorrow, next week, next year. Nobody knows what life will bring them. The Baltimore Eagle continues it's flight, we don't know where our flight will take us, but we are going to enjoy the feeling of the moonlight on our faces and the feel of the wind under our wings.Wherever the flight takes us, there is one thing you can always count on;
